Residential vs. Commercial Concrete: What Actually Changes

Mix design, rebar grids, finish tolerances, and inspection regimes, the line between a backyard patio and a warehouse slab is bigger than you think.
Strength specs
Residential flatwork is typically 3,000 to 4,000 psi. Commercial slabs run 4,000 to 6,000 psi, with industrial floors hitting 7,000+ psi. See thickness specs.
Reinforcement
Residential: wire mesh or #3-#4 rebar on 18-24 inch centers. Commercial: #4-#6 rebar on 12-16 inch centers, often two mats, sometimes post-tensioned cables.
Tolerances and testing
Residential floors are eyeballed flat. Commercial floors are F-number tested per ASTM E1155. Bedrock's commercial division specializes in FF/FL specified work.
Frequently asked questions
Sometimes for small jobs, but anything specified to FF/FL numbers needs a commercial-experienced crew.
Higher strength mix, more cement, more admixtures, more rebar, and stricter placement requirements all stack up.
